Hopkins while a prisoner of war a Cabanatuan Concentration Camp, Philippines, the journal contains recipes contributed by numerous prisoners of the camp. The title of the journal, Sunshiner's pipe dreams refers to the starving prisoner's pipe dreams of eating elaborate dishes upon their return to freedom.
